"Well that, was perplexing."
-Tori
The minute I read this quote I started freaking out. Obviously if one of the test directors thought it was perplexing, then it must have been really out of the ordinary. Right away, Beatrice thinks that she's Factionless. The Factionless are the people that don't fit in with the rest of society. They are the people that live on the street, and they work jobs such as bus drivers, or janitors, or garbage men. That's when Beatrice gets probably the worst news anyone in her society could ever get. "Divergent." Woah...DIVERGENT?!?! You're probably wondering what Divergent means. It means that the test results were not specific enough to give you just one faction. In fact, Beatrice got three.
Divergence.. according to Tori, is very dangerous. And she warns Beatrice that she must keep it a secret. Forever.
Now I can see keeping it until the Choosing Ceremony, but FOREVER?! No freaking way, too long for me. Then Beatrice thinks to herself that it's totally okay that she has to keep it a secret, because she wouldn't want anyone to know anyway. I guess I just really don't understand this society yet.
However, it really doesn't matter what the test says, because ultimately, it is Beatrice's choice. Will she choose one of the five factions? Will she not choose anything and go Factionless? Or will she choose. to remain. divergent. ???
