Chapter 39: The End.

"I suppose that now, I must become more than either."
-Tris

Wow. This was a really great ending to this book, until the last page. The shot never came, I knew it wouldn't. I mean, there are two other books left! So Four...Tobias..(maybe I can get used to that).. is back. Tris asked him how he remembered and he says he didn't. He just heard her voice.

They know that they need to move fast, so stop the simulation. So Tobias goes up to the screens and starts hitting buttons and doing things that Tris can't even watch, and finally, they are back too. Every single Dauntless member that was under the spell has returned. Then he has to get the data off the computer so that the leaders don't start the simulation again.

So they start running, away, from everything. Tris is searching for Caleb everywhere. She finds him and she tells him that their father is dead. Then, here comes Marcus. He tries to act like everything is okay with Tobias, but Tris starts freaking out telling him to get away before she does something that she won't regret anymore. Like shoot him. He backs off. Good for her, standing up fro Tobias.

Here comes the ending, and the water works. They are finally running away. To Amity, where they will be safe for a while anyway. She explains how she will never feel safe with Marcus and Peter around, but I have a feeling that that will change during the next book.

So long for now. I hope you enjoyed my blog!

THE END.

Chapter 38

"Can I be forgiven for all I've done to get here?"
-Tris

I know you probably want some big summary of this chapter- but I really have only one thing to say.

Tris reminds me of a savior. At first, I wanted to write that she reminded me of God, but then I thought about it, and she doesn't. I know a lot of people don't believe in God, and that is okay. It took Tris a few short pleads to see that she was getting through to Four. That is what saviors do. No matter what, they will not stop until they get through. So thank you, Tris. For breaking through the barrier, and continuing this trilogy.

I like this quote because of exactly what I talked about. If that trigger is pulled, which I am sure it won't be. Tris will be forgiven, because that is what God does.

Chapter 37

"Did I shoot him in the leg?... No. He walks."
-Tris

Okay so they are heading to the control room- and by them i mean Caleb and Tris as well as their father and.... Marcus. Ugh. I hate him almost as much as I hate Jeanine.

So here they are at the Dauntless compound when who should show up? You probably didn't guess it.. it's Peter. So Tris, as well as I am sooooo confused on why he isn;t under the simulation! At first I though he was Divergent- how aful would that have been? Then I realized that he wasn't smart enough. He explains how the leaders took him off, and then Tris threatens to shoot him, and just like Eric, he doubts her.

How long is it going to take for people to realize that she is not a small little Stiff anymore! She WILL shoot you, and she won't feel bad about it! Goodness! Take a hint. So she shoots him in the arm. Lol.

Okay so Tris tells Caleb and Marcus to wait with Peter while her and her father go find the control room. She is trying to keep her brother safe. She is such a good sister! It makes me want to be a better sister...Nahhhhhh.(;

So her and her father get to the elevator and two guards come, guns a blazin' Tris hits the ground, and her father jumped in front of her as a diversion. WHY DO PEOPLE TRY AND SAVE HER BY GETTING THEMSELVES KILLED. Ughhhhhh whyyyyyyyyyy. If Caleb dies, I am literally going to quit this book.

She finally makes it to the control room and she sees one lonely guard staring up at the huge screens. "Tobias."

I like this quote because in all this misery, Tris can still be a little humorous.

Chapter 36

"Eric called Al's death brave, and he was wrong. My mother's death was brave."
                                                                      -Tris

This chapter was more of a filling chapter. Tris starts running away from two guards and one of them she kills with absolute ease. Wow. How?! However- the other one, she recognizes. It was Will. WHYYYYYYYYYY. She had to choose, his life or hers. she chose her own.

She finds the building where the rest of her family is and once she gets in, she finds Caleb, wearing his old Abnegation clothes. He explains that he researched the simulation serum and found out what it was, and then he dropped out of initiation and became Factionless. However, Tris's dad will not accept that. I am glad that their father has not completely turned against them.

When Tris's dad removes the bullet from her arm, she gets to thinking, how much does she really know her father? She then figures out that they need to wake up the Dauntless members in order to stop the war! If they execute this perfectly, nothing could go wrong, right?

This quote is so true it isn't even funny. It reminds me of a movie we watched in Health called What Dreams May Come, where it explains how suicide is the lowest of low.

Chapter 35

"Human beings as a whole cannot be good for long before the bad creeps back in and poisons us again."

-Tris

This chapter was quite the long one. Tris woke up inside the same glass tank that she had been in many times before. The water starts to rise, and for a minute, I think that they are putting her through another fear landscape simulation. Then I realize that they are actually going to kill her- through her own worst fear. These people are low. Very, very, very, low. I feel so bad for her, all the things that she has ever thought deeply about is coming true.

Now, here comes the bravest thing that Tris has ever done. She gave up. Now, giving up might seem like the most cowardly thing to do, but not in this case. She decides that "sometimes it isn't the fighting that was brave, it's facing the death you know is coming." That is the first time in all of my blogs that I have used a quote in the middle of a blog. However, I think that it is necessary.

And of course- someone always comes to Tris's rescue, but it is usually Four. We all know that Four is under a spell now, so it had to be someone else. It was her mother! I was all like- wow why can't my mom be like that?! So then her mom starts shooting all these guards and she explains how she found Tris. About how she had been looking for her ever since the train came. She also told Tris why the leaders are so scared of Divergents, because they can't be controlled.

Then they start running and trying to find her brother and father, and Tris's mom tells her that she will distract the guards while Tris runs away. I knew something bad was going to happen. I knew it. Of course it was something like Tris's mom dying. She was shot. To death. And Tris had to run away. It's just.. too.. horrible.

I like this quote because it reminds me of this movie I once watched called Twitches. There was this thing called the darkness coming after them, and no matter what they did, good or bad, it get getting closer and closer, trying to kill them. This is how I refer to evil.

Chapter 34

"He is gone. Controlled by the simulation, he will now murder the people he called innocent not three minutes ago. Jeanine killing him would have hurt less than this."
-Tris

This chapter made me soooooo mad. Maybe it was just because the whole chapter I had to deal with Jeanine. Well not me personally of course but I had to put up with reading about her, and that to me, is dealing with her. So even though Tris got shot in the shoulder, and both her and Four were captured, Jeanine was the real problem with this chapter. They were both taken to a room where Jeanine tells them that they are going to have very unfortunate fates. This includes Tris dying, and Four having "tests" done.

You're probably really confused. "What kind of tests?" Well, now that the leaders know about Tris's and Four's divergence, and how they were able to avoid the serum's control, she wants to test Four to see if she can fix her serum somehow. And again, "Why not Tris?" Well, Jeanine believes that Four's divergence is weaker than Tris's. And although I hate her with a burningggggg passion, I have to agree.

Finally Jeanine tells them her other plan. To be in control of everyone. Okay, I know I have problems with losing control, but I don't think I'd ever go to this kind of extreme! This is when Jeanine sends Tris away to be killed, and Four starts to attack Jeanine. GO FOUR! He starts to strangle her, and the guards grab him and inject another serum into him. He then turns into a complete animal. His eyes glaze over and he tries to run at Tris and kill her. This is when she knows he's gone.

This quote really gets to me, because of the way it is worded. Just the way she talks about how he is gone, it's really deep.

Chapter 33

"You won't shoot me."
-Eric
"Interesting theory."
-Tris

Okay if this happened to me- I think I would be freaking out. I don't know how Tris kept it together. Here's what happened. Tris woke up in the middle of the night to everyone acting like robots. They were moving in unison I mean obviously I didn't witness this, but I'm sure it would have been really super creepy! And of course, like every other person in this world, she was curious. Who wouldn't have been? So she followed them, trying as hard as she could to kep the same movements as them.

Once she makes it on the train, all she could think about was her beloved Four. She comes to the conclusion that her Divergence is what is keeping her from being under the same spell as everyone else, and she thinks that maybe if she finds Four, it would prove to her that he was Divergent too, just like she suspected. I was hoping and PRAYING that he was Divergent, because what Tris really needs right now is a friend! I mean, everyone should have a friend in their time of need. And since the leaders are the only ones who aren't under the spell besides the Divergent, where else is she going to find one?
Thank gosh she finally finds Four but at first, he is acting so flawlessly that a little part of her died inside. However, he reached across and grabbed her hand and her whole body lit up. She was so excited. Tris knows that the only place she and Four will be safe is with her family, so when they get off the train, they try to stay out of sight while searching as well.

And when they run into Eric- my heart stopped. I started freaking out, especially when Eric threatened to shoot Four. This is the moment to me when Tris is brave. She stands up for Four and outs her gun to Eric's head. I was all, "YEAH GO TRIS GO YEAHHH!"

I like this quote because no matter what happens to Tris, whether she is kidnapped or interrogated or killed or her Divergence is known, she put it all on the line for someone she loved. That is true bravery to me.

Chapter 32

"Divergent or not, this faction is where I belong."
-Tris

It's here. The chapter we have all been waiting for. The Welcoming banquet happened this chapter. And I'm just going to skip right to the good part. The rankings. Okay, I pretty much guessed this part, seeing as Tris's time for her fear landscape was really short. Tris was ranked first! WOOHOOOOOOO! And thank GOODNESS that Will and Christina were ranked sixth and seventh, so they both made it!(: I would've died if one of them made it and the other didn't!

However, Peter was ranked fifth which made me laugh SO hard seeing as he thought he was going to be first. Haha, nice try buddy boy. Actually, Uriah got second rank, Lynn got third, and Marlene was ranked fifth. And guess who was ranked eleventh and twelfth and are now FACTIONLESS?! You guessed it! Molly and Drew. Hahahahaha suckerssss. I mean, what an unfortunate fate for these two teenagers(;

The minute that they found out, Tris, Christina, and Will jumped for joy and cheered as loud as possible! Then, Four came up and Tris and they finally had their first moment. I mean their first moment, moment. As in, public. They kissed, right there in front of the whole entire crowd! That's when Tris fits some of the puzzle pieces together about the Erudite and the Dauntless and the war on Abnegation. She figures out exactly how Erudite will get the Dauntless to fight with them.

I love this quote because it's really how Tris feels. Finally. Dauntless is where she belongs, and that is it.

Chapter 31

"I want to be brave, and selfless, and smart, and honest... I continually struggle with kindness."
-Four

It's over- I'm pretty sure Tris thought it would never end. She is greeted at the door by all the Dauntless leaders, congratulating her on finishing her "final evaluation." If I were her, I don't think I would feel so accomplished. Then Eric injects her with this serum which he says is a tracking device. I was all like, come on. I'm not THAT gullible. This is definitely the simulation serum, I just don't know what it does yet.

She then finds Four, and they talk for a while. He asks her about her landscape, and she is confused, because she just assumed that he watched. Obviously he didn't hun. So she talks about it, and they talk for a while, and she very cautiously tells him about her fear involving him and intimacy. I couldn't stop giggling here. Hahahahahahaha.

Anyway- Four sees the Band-Aid that Tris put over her Abnegation tattoo and asks her what it is. She tells him, and he says that he has the same one! She tells him to show it to her, which is funny, because she basically asked him to take his shirt off, can you say yum?! He shows her, and she is confused. There is not only a Dauntless and Abnegation symbol, but also a symbol for the other five factions! This is where the quote comes in.

I like this quote because I find it very true to the theme of the book. You shouldn't have to choose just one, why not be all five? In the end it will make you a more well-rounded person.

Chapter 30

"The first time I felt powerful in the Dauntless compound was when I was holding a gun."
-Tris

This was a long one, but I will try to hold your attention by just explaining each of her fears, because that's really what the chapter was all about.

Fear 1- The same as the last time. Crows. However, she knew how to handle this one- as she had been faced with it before. She quickly created a gun in her mind and magically, there one was!

Fear 2- Also the same. She was trapped in a glass box and it was quickly filling with water. She agin knows what to do, and she breaks the box.

Fear 3- We haven't discovered this one yet. She was in a fast flowing river that was trying to drown her, and she was holding onto a rock, and that was all. This is where she really figured out what her fear was. It wasn't water, it was losing control. Again, I'm pretty sure her and I are twins because that's mine too! She quickly gained control through mind over matter.

Fear 4- Being burned alive. Not only that, but Peter was in this one. He was the one burning her alive! Jerk. She realizes this is all in her head, and she tells it to rain. Of course, it starts pouring, put the fire out!

Fear 5- This is the kidnapping one. She is being taken from her home, by men she doesn't know. Not just that, but they are also faceless. Yes, faceless. As in, they had no faces. She starts freaking out, as anyone would in that situation, but soon regains herself only to find herself in a different fear.

Fear 6- Intimacy. Yes, intimacy. But guess who she's being intimate with?! Four(: Haha she doesn't find it that amusing though, as she has a hard time being vulnerable. Me too, Tris, me too. She tells him "No. Not like this."

Fear 7- This is the worst. She is standing with a gun by her side and her family standing in front of her and Jeanine whispering in her ear. Jeanine gives her 10 seconds to shoot her family, but Tris ca't do it. She ends up shooting herself. Was this brave or stupid? When Al committed suicide they called it brave. But here- I don't know.

I like this quote because guns are one of the most powerful weapons in the world, and people need to recognize the kind of damage they can do.

Chapter 29

"Will we ever sleep soundly again, with the memories of our fears in our heads? Or will we forget our fears today, like we're supposed to?"
-Tris

This chapter was super short! It was only like 5 pages, so my blog for now will be really short. This is the moment. All the initiates are going through their own fear landscapes. They go one by one, and Tris is last. I could not stand being last, because I would have to sit there forever, but she hides her emotions pretty well. I'm not sure if going last is good or bad. For me it would be bad, because I would probably sit and think about all the things that would go wrong, but for her I think it was good, it gave her time to prepare.

Finally her name is called, and one this day, in this hallway, time froze. I'm really pulling for her on this one.

I like this quote because there are two questions. However you answer, it will separate the Dauntlee from the other factions. Good luck with that.Only people who watched Sweet Life of Zack and Cody will know this. He said "Good luck with that." a lot.

Chapter 28

"This isn't candor. There are liars here, Caleb. There are people who are so smart they know how to manipulate you."
-Tris

Wow this chapter was crazy. Finally, and this is the part I have been waiting for because it is a time where Tris is pretty vulnerable, she gets homesick. Obviously she can't go visit her family in Abnegation, as that is COMPLETELY against the rules. However, what her mother told her to do on visiting day was creeping back into her mind. And Tris was curious too. As anyone would have been. "How was Caleb? What is he doing? What is the simulation serum?"

The answer to all these questions she figured out- lie in Erudite. So she decided to do something stupid. Like always, and she went to visit the Erudite compound. Once she found Caleb, she realized how much a faction changes you. She barely even recognized him. And he she. Caleb explains how something big is happening, but he doesn't know what. HE IS AN ERUDITE AND HE DOESN'T KNOW SOMETHING. WOW.

Anyway, Tris starts to leave the Erudite compound and the one and only queen female dog of the universe comes and gets her. Jeanine. She interrogates her for God knows how long. I really really truly despise her. She then escorts Tris back to Dauntless and into the hands of Eric, who was acting vey very scary. Not intense scary, calm and content scary. Yeah. Four came in to save the day, as always and Eric let her go. This was Tris's second chance. She better use it wisely.

Four took her to the Dauntless train and when they got on, he explained everything. How the Erudite were planning a war on Abnegation and they are getting the Dauntless to help them. Great, now she has to actually kill them, not just mentally or in a hallucination.

I chose this quote because it is true, plain and simple. This is exactly how the real world is, and you better get used to it.

Chapter 27

Okay, I know you will all be really disappointed, but I couldn't find a really good quote this chapter. I feel like good quotes will really grip you until you share them, and none of these did this for me. So moving on- this chapter was super intense/.

She woke up super excited about her previous encounter with Four. (Oo-Laa-Laa) Haha, however, that excited goes down the drain when she next sees Four and he completely ignores her. (There's his bad boy side!) I felt really bad for her! All she wanted was someone to love her. *Sobs quietly*

*Sniffle* Anyway, all the initiates are now trained together. They are going to go through a fear landscape just like the one that Four showed Tris. However, they are now going to go through a different trainer's fear landscape. Her name is Lauren. I like Lauren.

Each initiate gets assigned one of Lauren's fears. Tris got assigned kidnapping. I was a little suspicious of this at first, and my suspicions proved to be true when Tris goes into the landscape and right in the middle of it transforms it into her own fear! She gets really super panicky and when she comes back to reality, everyone is staring at her. They were watching the whole time! Poor Tris.

Then Four starts yelling at her! He is not allowed to do that! Not allowed! I think Tris and I have twin telepathy or something because she does not condone this type of behavior and she slaps him. Yes, you read that right. She slaps him right across the face! Go her!

Chapter 26

"I watched you because I like you."
 -Four

This chapter was pretty short, but I liked it. I felt a lot of deep, deep emotion. Especially between Tris and Four. If you were completely oblivious to the feelings they have for each other in the other chapters, you can definitely see it now.

So they are walking, and Tris is trying to control herself. Gosh, I can only imagine how hard it would be to control yourself around someone like him. The way he is described in the book, I can see him in my head. He is pretty cute. (Also thanks to Athalie for pointing out all his sexy qualities every day in class.) She is focusing on the little things, as if he is going to notice how hard she is squeezing his hand. Like, no.

There is some part of her that is wishing that Four is just like her, Divergent. That they aren't all that different. Because I mean, like Four said. "There's a whole whopping two year gap between us." (He was being sarcastic of course, as am I.) She asks him, and he replied Abnegation. I think a little part of her died. Of course, Abnegation was expected though right?! Right. He goes on to explain why he chose Dauntless. To get away from his abusive father whom we met last chapter. (Hate him by the way.) Then they keep talking. There was a LOT of talking in this chapter. He tells her to call him Tobias, not Four. I was like, "Um no? Your name is Four. NOT Tobias." Of course she listened to him and started calling him Tobias, which was totally weird.

Then of course, they kissed. At first a little. Then a LOT. Like a lot a lot. I didn't know when they would come up for air. So Tris is out of the NBK Club. (Never Been Kissed) And here I am in the club all by myself. Wow people are going to think I'm totally weird when they read this. Oh well.

I chose this quote because I thought it was quite creepy. I mean, it was totally sweet, but SUPER creepy if you really think about it.

Chapter 25

"It's easy to be brave when they're not my fears."
                                                                           -Tris

Woah. This chapter had a lot of things going on. I felt like it was never-ending! But that was okay, because I didn't really want it to end. At the beginning, Tris describes how she and Christina and Will got new tattoos. She says that she got the symbol of Abnegation, to remind her where she came from. I like this, because I like that she always wants to remember where her true home is, even if no one wants her to.

Then as they are walking back to the dorms, she says she doesn't want to go back yet, and that she is going to go see Four. As Christina and Will walk away, she watches them playfully jab at each other, both laughing and smiling. OMG ARE WILL AND CHRISTINA GOING TO DATE?!? That would be sooooooo cute!

Anyway- Tris walks up to the fear landscape room to find Four, standing at the door. He explains how he wants her to come in, because there are some things he wants to show her. He says to see if she can figure out his real name, and why they call him Four. Tris is very skeptical, and I would be too. But she knows that she is safe with Four.

At first, they are on top of a building, and we all already knew that heights was one of his greatest fears. So they have to jump off. Usually someone would call him a wimp for having height be a fear, but I agree. It isn't the height that scares him, it's losing control, and that can be very scary. Next, they are in a room, that seems to be getting smaller and smaller, just big enough to fit them. He's claustrophobic. This has got to be the worst for him, seeing as he's moaning and groaning. Tris tries to calm him down by talking to him, and it actually works a little bit. Go her!

Next, appears a table. A table with a gun on it. And in front if them, a woman. With very plain features, and Tris knows what he has to do right away. He has to shoot her. This one is not as bad for him, because he decides when it's over. And finally, the worst fear of them all. This is when she figures out Four's real name. Out of the dark, appears a man, that Tris knows very well. Marcus, the leader of Abnegation. She fits the puzzle pieces together, quite quickly, actually. Marcus had a son who joined Dauntless, named, Tobias. All of a sudden, Marcus brings out a belt and starts whipping Four! I mean Tobias! No, I'm definitely calling him Four.

Tris jumps in front of the belt, and after it hits her, she garbs it and whips it right back at Marcus, and then he disappears. And she fits the last puzzle pieces together. Four fears=Four. His name is Four because he only has four fears.
"Four fears then, four fears now."

Chapter 24

"Courageous?  Courageous would have been admitting weakness and leaving Dauntless,     no matter what shame accompanied it.  Pride is what killed Al, and it is the flaw in every Dauntless heart.  It is in mine."
                                                                          -Tris

Wow. As you can see by this quote, something very big happened in this chapter. Al....committed suicide. He jumped off the chasm. I don't know what was going through his head, I mean, how do you know. But I know one thing that may have driven him to it, and so does Tris. At the end of last chapter she told him to never talk to him again, when he tried to apologize.

I am going to talk about the quote a little early, because I think it fits here. I agree with this quote 100%. I don't see how life would be so awful, that you would want to end it. Life is always changing, and when you hit rock bottom, there is nowhere to go but up.

Funerals are very very different in Dauntless. There is a lot of cheering. Yes I know, cheering. I was confused too. BUT apparently, to the Dauntless, venturing into the unknown it the bravest thing you can do. So yes, there was a lot of cheering. But Tris didn't feel like cheering. All she wanted to do was be alone, so she left.

Later, Four came to find her and they had a little moment. And it was  really cute(: This chapter had a lot of ups and downs, to say the least.

Chapter 23

"I understand why you’re worried, Peter.  The events of last night certainly proved that        you are a miserable coward...So now we all know, that you are afraid of a short, skinny girl from Abnegation."
                                                                         -Four

This chapter to me was all about protection. And instead of going into a lot of detail about what it was about, I want to talk a little about that. But I promise I'll include examples from the chapter. The definition of protection is- Preservation from injury or harm. However, protection can be applied to anywhere in life. Four protects her because he's in L-O-V-E, Will and Christina protect her because they are her best friends, and Al protected her in the beginning because he was her friend, but now he is just a scared little boy.

The minute that Will and Christina found out what happened to Tris, and that Al was a part of it, they were immediately protective of her! When Four took the initiates to see part three of initiation, they helped her get there because she could barely walk. And I just thought it was hilarious when Four told Drew to "pick up the pace" even when he was really hurting, and absolutely no one was helping him.

Four explained part three of initiation, and told everyone that they would be going through fear landscapes. Fear landscapes are exactly like the simulations in the chair, but you are actually going through them. Physically. Not mentally.

This quote was hilarious to me because it shows that Four can stand up for Tris. Plus it makes Peter look like a complete idiot and that makes me giggle.

Chapter 22

"You're a little scary Four." "Do me a favor, and don't call me that"
-Four and Tris

This chapter was very short, but you could just tell that there was a lot of emotion in it. Tris woke up in Four's dorm. At first she doesn't register where she is. She describes how she hurts everywhere from what those awful boys did to her. He explains that he beat up Drew so bad that he put him in the infirmary.

Four tells her that he is going to report it, but she tells him not to. I don't understand why, but then I think back to what happened to Edward. Anyone who would want to punish them can't, and anyone who can punish them wouldn't want to.

Tris doesn't even want to understand why Al would want to do that to her. Until Four helps her. "He wanted you to be the small, quiet girl form Abnegation" No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, NO! Why why why why whyyyyy. Ugh I now hate him, I hate Al.

They then started talking about the whole night, and what happened, and Tris started going into detail about the certain things that happened. He tells her that she needs to pretend to be vulnerable in order to not have things like this happen to her again.

This quote made me very curious. Curious about what happens in the next chapters. But I don't want to read ahead, because curiosity killed the cat.

Chapter 21

"You belong here, you know that?  You belong with us.  It’ll be over soon, so just hold on, okay?"
                                                                          -Four

You know, I am really starting to dislike the Erudite. I mean, I never liked them, but my hatred is getting stronger and stronger with every thing that I read. This chapter started off talking about the articles that the Erudite have put out about Abnegation. They even accused them of HOARDING LUXURIES. They actually said that! They accused the SELFLESS faction of being selfish! Wow. I can't, I just can't.

Then, later in the chapter they talk about the simulation that Tris had to endure. Again, she was given a gun, and she had to shoot her family. Oh my goodness, that would be horrible. I know the saying is "Faction before blood." But, I don't think I could take it. I would definitely not be a good Dauntless initiate. And then, all of a sudden, rankings for stage two came out. And I was all, what?!? There aren't supposed to be cuts! Then, Will explains that it is just a progress report.

AND TRIS WAS RANKED NUMBER ONE! Woohoo! Go Tris go! Peter was ranked second, and Will and Christina were ranked eighth and ninth. However, something went wrong. Tris's time was two minutes and forty-five seconds. Amazing! Too amazing, seeing as Peter's time was only eight minutes! I really hope no one suspects anything.

I was wrong. Someone does suspect something. I don't know who though, because all Tris described was a woman's voice talking to Eric about Divergent. And before she could say any more- a hand grabbed her. Peter's hand to be exact. This is when I flipped out, remembering what happened to Edward. And then two more people came. Drew and AL. I was freaking out! Why Al?!?! Ughhh it made me so mad.

The three boys dragged her to the chasm and threw her up against the railing, talking very creepily and groping her. The water was thrashing at her and she was going to fall until, guess who came to the rescue? You guessed it! Four. Thank god, because I thought they were going to kill her. He gave Drew quite a beat down too.

I like this quote because I know it's true, simple as that.

Chapter 20

"You manipulated the simulation; you’re Divergent.  I’ll delete the footage,  but                                  unless you want to wind up dead at the bottom of the chasm, you’ll figure out how to hide it during the simulations!"
                                                                  -Four

This chapter was kind of difficult for me. But not impossible. It starts right away. It started talking about another simulation that Tris had to be in. Then it started to describe it, and trust me, this one was the worst. The simulation was that she was trapped in this room, and water started rising, and then she started drowning. Scratch everything I said before. This would be THE worst. When you are getting pecked by crows, you have no time to think about what is going on. When you are drowning, you have all this time to think about what is going to happen to you, and during all this time, you can't breath.

Tris doesn't think like this, though. All she can think about is how to get out. She starts searching for a way out, and she starts kicking the glass. She kicks and kicks and all of a sudden, she puts a crack in the glass. She keeps kicking and finally, the glass breaks. Water starts gushing out, and she is safe. Then she is awake in the chair again. She expects Four to be happy. This is a completely normal expectation right? Orrrrr not. Because here comes Four, with a completely different, mind-blowing reaction.

This quote really sums up the rest of the chapter. He knows she is divergent. How? Why? For answers, she goes to Tori at the tattoo shop. Tori talks to her for a little while, and she keeps trying to help her understand. Then, like everyone else, Tori tells her that she can't tell ANYONE that she is Divergent. Or she will DIE. Tris doesn't believe her. But I do. I hope she doesn't do anything stupid.

Chapter 19

                                      "You look good Tris."
                                                      -Four(Drunk)

I really don't want to go into much detail about this chapter, especially the end of it... but I will, I mean just for my fans who come to see my blog posts every day because that's just how fabulous I am right? Haha not!

Anywayyy- in the beginning of the chapter Peter was being a complete donkey(you know) and was reading off a newspaper that was bashing Tris's family. (Old family.) I wanted to literally jump into this book and kick him in the face. Ugh he makes me so angry. So enough about that, I mean we all know how Peter can be. Even Tris! She actually tries to start a fight but here comes good ol' Will to stop her.

She starts bashing the Erudite's and saying how she can't believe that her brother joined them, and then Will gets kind of upset and says that they aren't all bad! And I have to agree with him because- as we all know- Will was an Erudite and he came out just fine. But maybe that is why he left... who knows.

So to get them out of this horrid situation, Christina convinces Tris to go get another tattoo, this time with the Dauntless seal. So Al and Will tag along, and after, they are just kind of wandering around. When- this is the part that I hate- they see Four! YAY! Right?..Wrong. It may be Four, but it's not the regular Four- it's the intoxicated Four. And I don't like it. I've never liked the idea of people getting drunk- it scares me. People make bad decisions when they are drunk. People DIE when they are drunk. No matter what, you will always end up regretting some decision you make when you are drunk. And I know, it's stupid of me to feel uncomfortable reading about Four being intoxicated, but I just can't help it. It definitely didn't help that he was making a complete fool of himself. Oh gosh.. I'm getting kind of worked up and this paragraph is getting really long. So I'll  leave you with this-

You can drink, I mean, for most people drinking is just a part of life. But please, know your limit. Know when you need to stop, because if you cross a line, who knows what will happen then.

Chapter 18

                                           "Three minutes."
                                                            -Four

You may not understand this quote right away, so I should explain. In order to do that, though, I should tell you what the chapter was about. So far the whole Dauntless part of the book has been about stage one, and physical combat. This chapter, however, was about stage two. And stage two, is about mental fear.

Okay, I'll be honest, and only because I know probably no one will ever read this, but I was really scared during Tris's part of initiation. The mental part is when they inject you with a serum that makes you hallucinate and create a fear in your mind that you have to go through. Tris's was when she was sitting in a field and all of a sudden, a crow started attacking her. Then a whole flock of them came and started pecking at her and eating her alive! That is literally the worst way to die. Slowly and painfully.

Crying and screaming, she woke up from the hallucination and started freaking out on Four, as if he put her in that situation on purpose, as if it was his fault. This is where the quote comes in, and obviously it is one of the shortest, but it is also one of the most powerful. He asked her how long she thought she was in the hallucination, and she guessed maybe half an hour. "Three minutes," he said. That is more than half the time that it took the other initiates!

I'm going to go weird on you here for a minute(again), I was so proud of my homegirl Tris! Go you! At the end of the chapter, they started talking about Dauntless before people like Eric came into power. And finally- one of the moments that we've all been waiting for, Four told us his rank when he was an inititate. He was first. Go him!

Like I said, this was the shortest quote, but it was the most powerful, if you think about it.

Chapter 17

"Before he can finish the word "go," he releases the sling and I forget him, I forget Uriah, and family, and all the things that could malfunction and lead to my death."
                                                                       -Tris

This chapter was probably one of my favorite chapters, and I've probably said that a lot, and to be honest I'll probably say it again! But this chapter was really, truly, amazing. It really awoke the whole book, and I can now see that Tris is really, truly, cut out for Dauntless.

In this chapter Uriah and some of the other Dauntless-born initiates as well as their members, took Tris up to an abandoned building. At this point I was all, "why an abandoned building?" And then this really rude girl named Lynn tried to act all superior to Tris, but Tris had the best comeback! And it was right! I was so proud of my homegirl. Wow... I'm sounding really weird right now, I'll stop.

Anyway... They went up to the top of the building and they got in line one by one to go ZIP LINING DOWN THE BUILDING! That would be so amazing, but I once watched this show called Off The Map, and this guy got his arm stuck in a zip line and it ripped his skin off and then he got stuck! So now for the rest of my life, zip lines have been ruined and I will probably never ever zip line in my life. I'll save you from the rest of the gory details, but you know.

This quote just makes me shiver. It is the most perfect sentence any author has ever written. I don't know why.. it's just so...flawless. And you know, some people think that to be flawless, you have to have perfect skin or goregous hair. but flawless can describe anything, or anyone. Flawless is definitely what this quote is.

Chapter 16

"No one who would want to punish Peter has the authority to, and no one who has the authority to punish him would want to."
- Tris
Ugh the beginning of this chapter makes me sad. Al talks to Tris and tells her the reason that he didn't want to talk to his parents is that he didn't want them to know that he was doing terrible during initiation. Right now, I feel really bad for him because this is the chapter that they get ranked, and I don't want to see him leave.

Anyway-The ranking go like this.

1. Edward
2. Peter
3. Will
4. Christina
5. Molly
6. Tris
7. Drew
8. Al
9. Myra

AWWWWW OMG POOR AL): Well..that was my first thought actually. Then, that night Tris woke up to a horrible scream. The lights turned on and she saw, along with everyone else, Edward, lying on the floor covered in blood. He is clutching his eye, and there is a butter knife sticking out of it! Like ew, no, ew, no, EW! Tris tries to help him as best as she can until the nurse gets there.

She then realizes that Drew and PETER are not in the room. (Obviiiii they did it) Anyway, Tris cleans up the blood off the floor because no one else will. (Rude) At the end, Edward was cut from the initiation because he couldn't continue. Myra left with him because she "couldn't stand the thought of not being with him." (Really weird, I never liked them.) So Al got to stay! YAY! Or nayy? I guess we'll see...

Chapter 15

"If Eric thinks I did something right, I must have done it wrong."
                                                                        -Tris

Faction before blood. I feel like that is Dauntless's "second" manifesto. Like on Visiting Day when Four said not get too attached to her family when she sees them again, if they do come. Then it will be easier to leave them again.

And guess what?! Her mom shows up! YAYYYYY. This is a good thing right? Ehhh kind of. They start talking and her mom wants to just talk about Tris, as a "gift" to her. (More like Abnegation rules duh.) So when Tris starts talking about Caleb in hopes that her mom will tell her something, much to her surprise, her mom does talk about him! She doesn't know much though because Abnegation and Erudite are fighting, so she wasn't aloud to visit him.

She introduces her mom to Four, and her mom thought he was cute!...hehe. She also goes over and Will introduces them to his sister, who is super mad that Will is hanging out with an Abnegation. (His sister is Erudite and Erudite and Abnegation hate each other.) Tris starts showing her Dauntless and threatens to fight her! Tris's mom has to basically drag Tris away from that situation.

Her mom drags her to a secret hallway and my first thought was, why does she know where she's going? AND THEN TRIS SAID THAT. I swear me and her are the same person. Lololololol. Anyway, her mom starts asking all these questions about the rankings and the initiation process, and asks for her results of her aptitude test. Of course Tris tells her, because she is her mom. Diver... her mom cuts her off and tells her never to say that word! Then she asks Tris to go visit the Erudite compound and have Caleb look up the simulation serum.

And finally, finalllllllly, Tris puts the puzzle pieces together. It took her a while but she got it. Her mamacita was Dauntlessssss. Baboom.

Chapter 14

                                    "I wish I could say I felt guilty for what I did. I don't."

I hated this chapter. HATED IT. Honestly I wanted to cry for Tris. Who thinks they just have the right to do what Peter Molly and Drew did to her? No one should. So Tris was getting out of the shower right? And all of a sudden, the three of them come up and corner her! That is probably one of my worst fears. Honestly, that would be the worst thing in the world. Then they rip off her towel when she tries to run. Awful. Awfullllllllll.

The whole chapter after that is how she gets so mad, and honestly, I don't blame her. Bullying like this has never been a really HUGE problem, that I have ever seen anyway. But if I EVER heard anything like this had happened, I would be completely appalled and I would not stand for that type of behavior. I really sounded like a teacher didn't I? Lol.

She was put up in a fight against Molly and SHE LITERALLY KICKED HER BUTT! BOOYAHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Accept for the fact that she didn't know when to stop. She kept hitting her and hitting her until Four told her that she won. And the last sentence was that quote, and I got chills. CHILLS.

Chapter 13

"You know, I'm getting a little tired of waiting for you to catch on!"
                                                                 -Four

This chapter was all about strength. I don't think it's just about just physical strength, but also mental. They were all given knives that they had to learn to throw at targets. Tris is the first to hit the target! Soon, everyone has hit the target except for Al. I feel really bad for Al sometimes, he didn't want this life! He wanted to protect people, not hurt them.

Eric gets really mad, which Eric seems to do a lot. Stupid Eric. Anyway, he says he wants Al to go stand in front of the target while Four throws knives at him. This is when Tris stands up for Al! However, her courage doesn't exactly pan out for her, seeing as Eric then makes HER stand in front of the target. I really don't think I could ever do what she did. I am too much of a wimp.

Four points at his forehead to let her know exactly where he is going to throw it, maybe because he thought it would be less frightening or something? Anyway, he throws the knife and it misses her! The next one misses her too. She finally lets her guard down, and surprise surprise, the next one nicks her in the ear! I MEAN HOLY OUCH RIGHT?!?!?! Yeahhhh... anyway. Eric tells her good job, and it seems like he's proud of her. I know... weird right?

At the end of the chapter, Tris got SOOOO mad at Four for hitting her, saying he did it on purpose, and he was trying to prove something to Eric. But I know, that he wasn't trying to prove something, and then when he said that quote, it kind of, just kind of made me think that he like her... but that would be weird... right?

Chapter 12

"Something about him (Four) makes me feel like I am about to fall.  Or turn to liquid.  Or burst into flames."
                                 -Tris

This chapter was a really good chapter! I feel like this is where the book is starting to pick up speed and intensity. They played capture the flag in this chapter. Well, actually at first, Tris fights Myra. Obviously Tris beats her, because Myra is such a weak little thing. However, Tris feels bad about it. She thinks that Myra isn't the type of person you want to hit.

Back to capture the flag. So all the transfers as well as the Dauntless-born initiates along with Eric and Four go out to Navy Pier on the train. They pick teams, with Eric and Four as captains, Four picks first. HE PICKS TRIS! At this point I was really confused, why not pick like Peter or Edward or Al? Tris is confused too, but by the end of the team-picking, she figures out what was going on. Eric picked all the intimidating people, while Four picked the scrawniest, smartest people.

So they all go out to hide their flags, and while Tris's team is arguing about what to do next, Tris has the super smart idea of climbing the ferris wheel to get a better look of the area, and find Eric's flag! So she starts climbing, and Four is right behind her. She soon figures out what Four's weakness is. He's afraid of heights! So once they get to the very top, they look around and finally find Eric's flag.

The whole way up to the top they were having some intense moments between the two of them.On their way down, TRIS ALMOST FALLS OFF! But here comes good ol' Four to the rescue! He turns on the ferris wheel and saves her! At the bottom, she gets her team and they head out to get the flag, half of them to capture it, and half of them to distract the other team.

Tris and Christina find the tree that it is in, and when they reach for it at the same time, Chritina begs Tris to let her get it, because Tris was already kind of the hero. Christina gave Tris a very patronizing look that made Tris think a little.

Anyway, they WON! Yay for Four's team! Hahahaha for Four's team.

Chapter 11

Chapter 10

"If he is a coward, it isn't because he doesn't enjoy pain
It is because he refuses to act."
                                                                 -Tris

This was probably one of my least favorite chapters so far. I honestly don't know why, I just did not like it at all. Probably because this is the chapter that Tris fought Peter. That isn't how the chapter started off though. It started off with Tris having the worst nightmare about Christina. Things started to go downhill from there. Her mattress got graffiti put on it with the word "Stiff," and when she was put up against peter in battle, he knocked her out and put her in the hospital.

I could really just end this blog right there, but I'll go into some more detail. When her friends came to visit her in the hospital, they started having a conversation  and what they talk about makes Tris reminisce about her old life and her family. Then she starts thinking about Caleb and she gets kind of angry, because now that she thinks about it, all of his Abnegation qualities could have just been Erudite qualities in disguise. Now that I think of it too, it could be very easy to do that!

At the end of the chapter, Tris goes back to the dormitory because she doesn't want to seem like a wimp to anyone. Oh and I can't forget my favorite part of the chapter! Four LEAVES  THE ROOM during Tris's fight! I was really confused and I am excited to find out why!

Chapter 9

"A brave man acknowledges the strength of others."
                                                                    -Four

I WAS SO COMPLETELY RIGHT. Holy cow this chapter was INTENSEEEEEEE. They were put up against each other to fight in this chapter, and first Al and Will were put up against each other, and i wanted to cry every time one of them punched the other. Al of course won, because he is just so much bigger than Will. But he felt soooo bad about it and I felt bad for him.

And then, Christina was paired up against Molly, one of the mean Candor girls. Molly is a lot bigger than Christina, but Christina had complete determination, and I was very convinced that she was going to win. However, that's not what happened. In fact, Christina tried to concede half way through. But due to a very tense moment between Eric and Four in the earlier fight, Eric would not allow it. In fact, he got so, so, so, so, so, so, so, SOOOOO mad at her!

This is where I was dying inside. Eric made Christina go out and climb over an edge and hold on for five minutes. Seems easy right? Wrong. If she lets go, she falls to her sudden death. Still seems easy right? Wrong again. During that five minutes, water is splashing against her back making her flail from side to side, and making is superrrrr hard to hold on to the edge.

The whole time, Al and Tris are cheering Christina on, yelling for her to hold on as long as possible. The SECOND the five minutes are up, Al tells Eric. But Eric, being the nasty, vile person he is, tells her to keep holding on. Al refuses, in fact, so threateningly, that Eric gives him the OK for Christina to come up. On her own. And that's where Al gets really mad and says that Christina is not a coward. She did what he said. She's not a coward. So he goes over to the railing and gabs Christina's arm and pulls her up.

The chapter ends with Tris kneeling over by Christina, and her looking at both Tris and Al, thanking them with her gaze. And then she lets out a breath, basically thanking God that she is safe. I was thanking Him too. #intensechapter

Chapter 8

                             "Maybe I do belong here."
                                                    -Tris

I feel like Tris really change during this chapter. She became more, Dauntless I guess. And I'm not just talking about her appearance, I mean that changed too. She bought black clothes, put on black makeup, and even got a tattoo. Well, three tattoos. Three birds, one for each member of the family she left behind. I really hope they visit her on Visiting Day.

Anyway, her emotions changed too! For example when they were learning to shoot guns, at first she couldn't figure it out, but when she eventually did, it made her feel so powerful and she loved it. That is what I think being Dauntless is about. Being in love with the rush you get when you do something incredibly stupid and dangerous. I think that Tris finally starts to starts to accept who she is now, and who she is, is a Dauntless initiate.

Honestly, nothing else really super important happened in this chapter. Very soon, they will be put up against each other to physically fight, so they are getting ready. And there was this one part in the chapter where Four and Tris had this moment, but that was probably nothing. Anyway, next chapter should be exciting!

Chapter 7

"You chose us, now we choose you."
 -Eric

This chapter was like a rollercoaster for me. I thought it was going to be just a "get to know the Dauntless" chapter, but it turned out to be so much more than that. In fact, it was actually pretty emotional. And I actually learned so much about Tris herself.

Speaking of learning about Tris, she has never had a HAMBURGER before! Like what?! I could never live without hamburgers. I absolutely have no idea how she has gone sixteen years without them. Wow.

Anyway, getting back into the book, we met Eric in this chapter. I don't like him. Right off the bat, he gave me the heebie-jeebies. If you know what I mean. He is just, really, scary. He is one of the five leaders of Dauntless, and he is really young too. He is the one that told them that there are nine of them, and eleven Dauntless-borns, and in the end, only ten will become Dauntless members. Everyone is super shocked! This means that every move Tris makes is crucial, because being Abnegation-born, her chances are slim to none.

The end of the chapter is so emotional, especially because she starts thinking about home, and it gets really deep. Then she starts hearing Al, one of her transfer friends, start crying. She starts to despise him, because she starts thinking that if anyone is going to become a member, they shouldn't be crying for home.

And then, Tris started to tear up, and then I started to tear up, and then we were just having this big ol' tear fest. Ughh. I'm so excited for the next few chapters.

Chapter 6

"A new place, a new name. I can be remade here. Tris."
                                                                 -Beatrice

At the beginning of this chapter, it is probably my favorite moment so far. As the faction choosers file out of the Choosing Ceremony, Beatrice takes one last glance at her parents. Her father is giving her the look of death, while her mother... is smiling. :) She looks at Caleb and can't help but thinking that he is a traitor. A betrayer.

All of a sudden, the Dauntless start running, and of course, Beatrice has to start running too. She explains how it is the best feeling in the world to run, because when she was in Abnegation, she could never do such a thing. Then, they start jumping on the train to head to the Dauntless headquarters. Beatrice barely gets on, and the only reason she makes it is because of Christina, a girl who helped her on.

Then, just like Beatrice watched every day, the Dauntless started jumping off. Except now she was living it. And she MAKES IT! However, some people didn't. In fact, one missed the roof and fell to her death. And one boy said, "I would rather be factionless than dead!" Beatrice didn't agree with him though. She though that she would rather be dead than empty and lonely, like the factionless.

The obstacles didn't stop there, because now the initiates are being told that they have to jump off a building into a black hole. And Beatrice thinks to herself, "If I'm Dauntless, then I must act dauntless." So she gets the courage to step up to the edge of the building first. Some of the other faction transfers make fun of her, saying that they were surprised an Abnegation was going first, and calling her a stiff. Beatrice didn't care, she jumped. And what do you know, there was a net at the end!

Thank goodness too because I don't think it would be a very good book if she died right in the beginning. She got off the net only she be welcomed by a crowd of people cheering, and a man who introduced himself as Four in front of her. He asked what her name was so he could announce it. She though long and hard and finally she said... Tris.

“First jumper--Tris!” Four sets his hand on my back and says, “Welcome to Dauntless.”

Chapter 5

"I love you. No matter what."
                                                   -Mrs. Prior
Wow. That was an inTENSE chapter! She chose Dauntless. This girl that had grown up her whole life in Abnegation, chose to be brave. But I mean did anyone else see it coming after Mrs. Prior said that? Or was it just me?
This chapter started off with Caleb and Beatrice on the bus to the Choosing Ceremony. Beatrice explains how Caleb looks so calm, and how she would be too, if she knew what she was going to choose. But I'm not so sure about Caleb, he seems different to me. I could be wrong though. And then there is Beatrice's parents. Her father seems so absolutely positive that they are going to choose Abnegation. But her mother seems to be genuinely supportive of whatever they choose.
At the Choosing Ceremony Marcus Eaton, from Abnegation, speaks to the crowd to explain the history of the factions. Beatrice explains how the people choose the faction they want. They each go up to the stand one by one, and Marcus hands them a knife and they slice their skin just enough to get a little blood out of, and then they sprinkle their blood into the bowl of the faction. The bowls go like this, in Abnegation's bowl there are gray stones, in Erudite water, in Candor glass, in Amity earth, and in Dauntless burning coals.
So they get through a lot of the people and all of a sudden, Caleb's name is called. He goes up, everyone so positive that he is going to stick with his faction, and he cuts himself, and sprinkles his blood over....... ERUDITE. The absolute enemies of Abnegation! WOW. So everyone freaks out, blah blah blah, and then, it is Beatrice's turn. So she walks up there in a complete daze, and goes through the process that everyone else went through. And then, right at she loses her breath and is about to choose Abnegation, something surges through her and she chooses DAUNTLESS.

And it just ends with the best quote ever from Beatrice... "I am selfish. I am brave."

Chapter 4

"Beatrice, we must think of our family. But we must also think of ourselves."
                                                            -Caleb Prior

I am completely lost by the end of this chapter. I really have no idea what she is going to choose! Beatrice seems very deadest on not being in Erudite, and I agree, because even if I WERE to turn against my family, I would not be in a faction that hates them! I'm kind of confused though, during the end of the chapter, Caleb seemed to be, different. Since the test, he seemed to be swaying from Abnegation. But then again, my judgment could be completely off.

I do however, like Caleb and Beatrice's relationship as siblings. They have a kind of unspoken bond that you can only get when you are really close to a person. With nothing more than a look, they can communicate sort of telepathically. I think it is part of the Abnegation faction. For example when Beatrice is talking about Caleb and Susan and the way they flirt in the Abnegation way, with only little hints. It is the same thing.

And then there is Beatrice's parents. There is her father, who is very strict in his own way. He is the kind of person who, getting a look of disappointment from, would be devastating. He thinks he knows exactly what his children are going to choose at the Choosing Ceremony, obviously he doesn't think that they would ever differ, but I'm not so sure.

Then there is Beatrice's mother. She gives off a different kind of vibe to her children, and I think I might like her. But I don't know yet, because I haven't gotten to know her much. Who knows though, if Beatrice chooses a different faction, will I ever hear about her mother and father or even Caleb again?! Who knows?!

I am definitely loving this book, it's one of my favorites and it is super hard for me to put it down.
